Despite the tragedy of WWII, Hiroshima welcomes its tourists, Americans included, with open arms. In fact the city, much like the rest of Japan, has embraced western culture to a certain extent. Several cheap flights to Hiroshima are always available that will take you to one of two airports, Hiroshima Airport, which is 40 kilometres from the centre and Hiroshima Nishi Airport which is only four kilometres away. There are also many cheap Hiroshima hotels on offer, making this a great city to visit.
Finding a cheap hotel in Hiroshima is fairly straightforward. More expensive are the Miyajima Island and Itsukushima areas, which make excellent overnight stays, although these areas do tend to get fairly busy. There are also many cheap Hiroshima hotels that are close to both the Peace Memorial Museum and Park and the Atomic Bomb Dome, both of which should not be missed.
The worst time to visit this city is, unfortunately, between the months of July and August, many people's preferred holiday times. This period, however, is one that is characterised by heavy rainfalls followed by almost insupportable heat. September, while often warm and pleasant, is also a month best avoided due to the high possibility of a visiting typhoon. Undoubtedly, the months from October through to May are the best time to visit. April, May, October and November all have ideal holiday weather. Even the winter months are reasonably mild, although during the festive season many museums and attractions are closed.
