dealchecker's guide to Istanbul

Istanbul is an unforgettable destination and the only city in the world to straddle two continents - Europe and Asia. Its skyline is broken by minarets, domes and a fabulous mix of architecture that pays testament to its 3500-year history and the many great civilisations that once held it as their capital. A popular destination for travellers since the midst of time, Istanbul offers a great range of hotels.

When to go
Istanbul is a year round destination but the best times to go are April to June and September to October when the weather makes wandering around its sprawling streets more comfortable. The weather heats up in July and August and the visitors flock in making it difficult to get a cheap hotel deal in Istanbul. Winter is colder and quieter so hotels are at their cheapest.

The same is also true for flights, however with our flights search we will be able to find you cheap flights to Istanbul no matter when you want to go.

Where to stay
All hotel types are well catered for. A luxury option is the Sofa Hotel and Residence Hotel, Istanbul whilst more affordable and well-reviewed accommodation can be found at places like Tashkonak Hotel, Istanbul. There are many options for the budget traveller and the Hotel Inter Istanbul seems to be well appreciated.

If you are not exactly sure what you are looking for take a look at some of our Istanbul holiday deals for some inspiration and to see some great prices.

What to do
Once you've chosen one of the many hotels in Istanbul, there's so much to do that it's hard to fit it into one trip. It's definitely worth having your senses assaulted in the Spice Bazaar, spending a day steaming away in the 500-year-old Cemberlitas Hamman and trying your luck haggling in the Grand Bazaar. Admire the architecture at the Topkapi Palace, Blue Mosque and the Haghia Sofia before you head down to the heart of modern Istanbul, Beyoglu which is home to a buzzing art scene and some of the city's best bars and restaurants.

When you've seen as much as you want of Istanbul you might consider looking for some cheap Istanbul car hire so you can explore Turkey under your own steam.
