 El Badi Palace

We went here thinking we were seeing the original super-opulent palace, but this is just a rebuild. Still, it's quite nice to look around for a bit although calling it "like the Alhambra" is a bit of a stretch.

We were staying near here so liked to come for a stroll in the greenery as often as possible. The outdoor amphitheatre even has shows sometimes, although we were more intersted in heading off to eat some delicious food I have to say!

 Souks

I adore souks and these are pretty spectacular as they go! So much to see and smell (not all great admittedly) it's just a fascinating melting pot.

 Museum of Marrakech

We went here on our first day and it was a wonderful introduction to the Moroccan way of life. I was totally enchanted by the architecture of the building as well as the collections themselves.

 Tanneries

Unforgettable experience! Stinky and a bit gross but mesmerising at the same time. It's hard to see how this stinkly bloody mess could end up as the lovely leather goods you see in the Souk! Not pretty but definitely memorable!!

Marrakesh used to be the exclusive playground for wealthy jetsetters but it's much more accessible to all these days. This North African city close to the Atlas Mountains is fast becoming the place to go if you want an exotic location and cheap hotels in Marrakesh are popping up everywhere.

Choosing a Marrakesh Hotel

There are all types Marrakesh hotels to choose from with a range of prices depending on whether you are looking for cheap hotels in Marrakesh or something more luxurious. The Medina is the Old Town, in the centre of Marrakesh, which is packed full of cheap Marrakesh hotels and small palaces known as Riads. The Gueliz or Ville Nouvelle is a quieter area, with reasonably priced hotels where the rooms have en-suite showers and breakfast is included in the price. The larger tourist hotels can be found further away from the Medina in the outskirts of the city and these often offer all-inclusive board.
