dealchecker’s guide to Paleochora

A beautiful, smaller town in the extreme south-west corner of Crete, Paleochora is a great get-away from some of the larger Cretan cities like Heraklion. 

Because it's locked up on a penninsula, it feels like a very small place. There isn't too much space for growth either, because of the mountains. There is only one real road in town, which goes through a small gorge. On either side of town, there is a beach: one sandy, one rocky.

It's a great place to relax. But you can also take a boat to the end point of the Samaria gorge, which is one of the greatest of Europe. The boat trip alone is worth the money: the coast is completely unspoiled. You might get jealous at people with their own boat though, because they can just stop at any deserted beach they see.
