 Paphos Bird Park

The best family attraction we found in Paphos! So much to see for everyone, they don't just have birds here but also loads of zoo animals, including my fave, the giraffe.

 Lemba

This is an amazing artistic village just outside Paphos itself, with loads of open studios as well as some wonderful sculptures like the Great Wall of Lemba.

 Faros Beach

Since you need a car to get here the crowds are more limited than the central beaches so you'll be able to have a peaceful day. It can be a little windy but I just like to get away from the crowds.

 Temple of Aphrodite

My parents dragged me here with them, they are all about the ruins but I have to say I wasn't impressed. The odeon in Paphos itself was much better, here I just walked about.

It was a bit of a struggle to get the kids to do anything historic on our holiday in Cyprus, but at only 5km away from Paphos the journey was quick, and the reconstructions really captured their imaginations. The excavations are really interesting too.

dealchecker's guide to Paphos

Paphos is an ideal location for a family holiday in Cyprus and a great place to pick up a cheap hotel. Paphos was once the capital of the island, so the area is awash with historical sites that are well worth a visit and of course the beaches are a major draw card too.

When to go
Like the rest of Cyprus the best and hottest weather is in summer, especially July and August. However this is also the busiest time of year for tourists so may not be the best time to get cheap accommodation. A better time to get good Paphos hotel deals is in the months either side of summer, although the weather is variable so you're taking more of a risk if you're after a sun-filled beach holiday.

It's the same situation when looking for flights, however if you use our flight search we should be able to find you a cheap flight to Paphos whatever time of year it is.

Where to stay
Paphos is divided in two areas. Kato is the old town and has most of the historical sites, plus a cute harbour. There are lots of hotel options here. Neo Paphos is inland and a good place to get away from the crowds. There are fewer accommodation options but if you hunt around you should find a bargain.

If money is no object then try the Elysium Resort Hotel, Paphos which is set right on the beach and has amazing facilities. A popular mid-range hotel is Hotel St George which gets very good reviews. Cheaper still is the Kefalos Beach Tourist Village which has a good location and offers great value for money.

If you are not too sure what you are looking for then take a moment to look at our Paphos holiday deals for a bit of inspiration and to see some really good prices.

What to do
There are good bars and restaurants, but if you want banging nightlife you should head elsewhere. It's worth hiring a car and making the drive out to the Troodos Mountains which rise to 6500 feet and are covered with lush pine and cedar forests.
