Pavia is in the southern-west corner of Lombardy and also the capital of the province which is devoded to agricolture (rice and wine). Is seat of one of the most important and ancient University of the country.
Pavia has been the Capital Regni Italici during the 12th century under the Longobards.
The city is in the plain known as "Pianura Padana" dominated by the Po river. One of its branch, the river Ticino divides the city into two parts connected by few bridges: the most famous are the "Ponte Coperto" (covered bridge) built during the Roman Empire and destroyed during the II world war but reconstructed in the following years, trying to preserve the style of the original manufact, and the "Ponte dell' Impero" (Empire Bridge).
