Ravenna is in the north east of Italy close to the Adriatic coastline. It was once the capital of the Western Roman Empire and its long history is evident throughout the town. Ravenna is famed for its beautiful mosaics, which are regarded as some of the best examples ever found and are the reason that many people choose Ravenna holidays.

Choosing a Ravenna Hotel

With a wide range of hotels Ravenna is a lovely place to visit. There is plenty of choice from smaller pensions and B&Bs to top end luxury hotels so there are Ravenna hotels to suit every budget. The most popular place to stay in the city is, of course, the old city centre and whilst many of the cheap hotels in Ravenna are near the train station, there are other options in the historic centre. Some hotels are in converted old buildings making for a particularly atmospheric stay. Just under five miles from the city centre is Ravenna Marina and there are several more upmarket hotels near the coast. Ravenna car hire is an attractive option if you want to stay at the Marina.

When to Visit Ravenna

You can visit Ravenna year round but the best times to visit are in Autumn and Spring. These peak times mean it's important to book hotels in advance and that cheap hotels in Ravenna at these times may be difficult to come by. July and August are particularly hot and humid making a trip to the city less popular.
