dealchecker’s guide to Sarnia

Sarnia is a nice little town in which to spend an hour or two on your way to or from the States.   It is situated on the St. Clair River, on the US/Canada border, opposite Port Huron, Michigan.

Front Street runs parallel to the river, and Christina Street , the main shopping street, is one block inland.

A nice restaurant is New Trish In Edition, on the corner of Lochiel and Front Streets.   This is a bright, spacious café, decorated with tall indoor plants, and lit by ceiling-high windows.   An all-day breakfast is available here, as well as home-made smoothies, sandwiches and salads for lunch.

On Christina Street , youll find Blackwater Coffee and Tea Co. at no. 170 (tel: 519-337-9056.   This café also has a computer for Internet use, at $5 an hour.

Another internet café, River Net Connections, is inside the main entrance to the Bayside Mall on Lochiel Street .

Just outside the mall, at 165 Lochiel Street , youll find the Stardust Book Lounge, offering new and used books, an out of print service and book readings.   Tel:519-337 7827, e-mail: stardustbooklounge@rivernet.net)

The Stones n Bones Museum houses a collection of minerals, fossils and gemstones, insects, antlers and horns, as well as other curiosities.   Theyre located at 223 N. Christina St. Sarnia , Phone: (519) 336-2100.   Stones 'N Bones is open Thursday thru Sunday and Holiday Mondays from 10am to 5pm during the months of January to December; however, for the months of July and August it is open every day from 10am to 5pm.   Admission is $6 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under.   www.stonesnbones.ca/
