Slidell Hotels

Close to New Orleans yet a world apart is the best way to describe Slidell.  Take a stroll through olde town for some of the best antique shopping in the area.  One even specializes as a doll hospital.  People come from all over bringing their special keepsakes for repair.

If you thought that this was all this city has to offer, think again there is plenty more.  If nature is more your calling, there are several state and national wildlife reserves surrounding Slidell in the east, west and north where there are trails waiting to be followed.  View bald eagles nesting, egrets, blue herons and other birds native to this area or take a canoe ride with a ranger.  There are also several swamp tours in which to choose from.  Be sure to let them know you are driving as you will save a good $20 per person.  One of the most renowned is Dr. Wagner's Honey Island Swamp tour, www.honeyislandswamp.com. 

Since our visit to Slidell is not yet over, it must be realized that overnight accommodations are a must.  There are many chain hotels just off the interstate or for a real treat choose Woodridge Bed and Breakfast (877-643-7109) www.woodridgebb.com which is located just north of the city in a quiet wooded area.  Woodridge is only five minutes north of Dr. Wagner's Swamp tour and minutes from the nature reserves.  Enjoy peace and quiet in the gardens after you long day and get one of the best nights sleep you will have while away from home.  Top off the stay with a feast of a breakfast! 

Slidell also is home to the ARTS.  Whether it is live theatre, gallery displays, museums or live music you will find it in Slidell.   On top of that, Slidell puts together many free concerts in Heritage Park.  Want more - 3 area golf courses and some of the best fishing spots to be found!
