The capital of Uzbekistan, Tashkent is an ancient city, although much of the past was destroyed by the 1917 revolution as well as the 1966 earthquake. Expect plenty of Soviet-era monuments and relics and visit some of the wonderful museums to delve into the past a little. The city also boasts the only metro system in central Asia, so you may be able to do without using your Tashkent car hire in the centre which will save navigating too much!

Choosing a cheap Tashkent hotel

If you want to be in a central location, look for a Tashkent hotel near Amit Temur Square. It's fairly easy to find a good selection of cheap hotels in Tashkent, even near the centre. If you want to spend a bit more, look for extras like Tashkent hotels that have their own Turkish baths. When to visit Tashkent

Tourism drops right down to practically zero during the cold winter months. Daytime temperatures are around a few degrees warmer than zero, so as long as you wrap up you'll be fine. Summer temperatures can reach a sticky 35°C - a time when the Aqua Park is very popular indeed! Early winter and spring are the rainiest times, so steer clear of those and you should have a really enjoyable time.
