Corfu's a popular choice with its lush countryside, clear blue sea and hot weather. Corfu Town (or Kerkyra) is steeped in history, drawing inspiration from Britain, France and the Veneto region of Italy. Kavos is perfect for partying and Sidari offers family-friendly fun. The impressive Mount Pantokrator can be seen from most parts of the island – it's the perfect place for experienced hikers looking for a challenge. Legend has it that Nymphs used to bathe in the village of Nymphes – you may even see one bathing in the waterfalls during your Corfu holiday!
There's plenty of direct flights to Corfu which depart from a huge variety of UK airports - Jet2, easyJet, Thomas Flights and Flytomascook are among the airlines that offer direct flights. Corfu Ioannis Kapodistrias International Airport is located three kilometres south of Corfu Town. Indirect flights are on offer but they're almost double the price.
Getting around during your Corfu holiday couldn't be easier. There are two types of buses on the island - blue buses only serve Corfu Town and the surrounding areas while green buses serve the rest of the towns and villages on the island. Tickets must be brought before boarding the bus and kiosks can be found in village shops or in the local square - make sure you buy a return journey at the same time.
The picturesque scenery on the island can be enjoyed at your own pace if you hire a car - there are numerous car rental agencies at the airport and dotted around the island. However it's recommended that you book your car hire in Corfu well in advance if you want to find a cheap deal and don't forget to buy a map in case you get lost!
Corfu is a very popular destination during the summer so prices can be on the expensive side for accommodation. But it's still possible to book a cheap hotel in Corfu as long as you're savvy about it and book well in advance. School holidays tend to be expensive so look into booking outside these peak times if you're after a bargain.
With so many things to see during your Corfu holiday it can work out expensive – after all, excursions don't come cheap! So instead of booking your adventure with the first tour company you see, make sure you check out what different firms are offering to find the best deal for you. Alternatively, try and organise it yourself – you never know how much you might save!

I prefer the greek name, which means 'finger of god' and these gorgeous trees are always one of the highlights of my visits to Corfu. I love their thin straight looks and every year make plans to plant some at home...although I never seem to manage it.posted by felless
WE took a hike into the interior of the island and were amazed at the beauty of the flowers and plants on offer, we thought it would be too arid for anything to grow! Definitely worth missing out on a day at the beach for!
