Travel to Costa Blanca

It's no surprise Brits have been enjoying holidays in the Costa Blanca for so long: this region in Spain really does make for the perfect sun-drenched getaway. It's where you'll find Benidorm, famed for Playa Levante beach and its many nightspots. Meanwhile, the other big city of Alicante boasts the bustle of Postiguet Beach, and it's all overlooked by the iconic Castle of Santa Barbara, a fortification which dates right back to the 9th Century. From Alicante you can also go on a day trip to the little island of Tabarca, with its cute coves and lovely restaurants.

There are cheap flights to Spain from all over the United Kingdom, and the Costa Blanca is no exception. Airlines including Monarch, Aer Lingus, Thomson Flights and Ryanair all offer direct flights from major airports including London Gatwick, Bristol, Manchester and Belfast International. Average journey time is around two and a half hours, and your gateway to your holiday in the Costa Blanca will be Alicante Airport, which is located around nine kilometres from Alicante itself. Bus connections to popular areas like Alicante and Benidorm are available at the airport, as are taxis.

The Costa Blanca region is one of the world's busiest tourist destinations and the public transport system reflects this. While trains are available, you'll probably find buses and coaches the easiest way to get around the region. Taxis aren't too pricey either and are helpfully equipped with meters. Another option is of course to hire a car in the Costa Blancayou probably won't need to if you want to spend most of your time relaxing in the sun, but if you're curious to explore beyond your resort then getting a car of your own can really add to the experience. Look online and try to book as much in advance as possible.

There are hotels in Spain to suit every possible budget, from bare basic accommodation to lavish resort hotels. It's well worth shopping around online for different hotels in the Costa Blanca, and comparing how prices differ between seasons. You may be able to capitalise on discounts and bargain deals if you're happy to visit outside the peak Summer period.

You can enjoy yourself in the Costa Blanca without spending a fortune. Look out for restaurants offering set menusyou can often get a three-course slap up meal for very little money. Bars also offer drinks deals, so be wary about splurging too much in expensive clubs when you can get the rounds in earlier in the night at various bars.
