Costa Blanca
Travel to Costa Blanca
Most travellers fly to Alicante, one of the major airports for cheap flights to Southern Spain. From Alicante Airport, you can travel to Benidorm or other resorts along Costa Blanca. Valencia Airport to the north is also well serviced as is Murcia Airport in the south. Flying time is only two hours from most of the UK.
On arrival in Costa Blanca
On arrival in Alicante you can take the Bus C-6 which runs every 40 minutes between the airport and Plaza Puerta del Mar. The journey only takes about 20 minutes. Easier still, you can pick up car hire in Alicante airport or just take a taxi to your hotel. If you're on a package holiday transfers may already be included.
If you're arriving into Valencia there is the metro (underground) linking the airport and the city centre. To get to resorts along the coast car hire or an organised transfer are your easiest options. Taxis are abundant and you can catch one just outside the arrivals terminal, but this will be expensive if you are going a long way.
Getting around Costa Blanca
The bus service linking Valencia and Alicante heads down the motorway and stops in Benidorm. Over 10 buses run each day direct between Valencia and Alicante which takes just over two hours. Other slower buses pass through coastal towns. Renfe trains connect Valencia and Gandia and there is a more scenic route between Denia and Alicante, stopping along the way. Alicante has a modern tram system running along the coast of Costa Blanca to Benidorm where you can connect onto train to travel further.
Travelling further afield
There's an extensive bus network throughout Spain, meaning you can travel easily on public transport. In addition to the regular bus service between Alicante and Valencia, there are buses to Madrid every day, with a journey time of four hours. A train service also links Alicante with Murcia, Valencia, Madrid and Barcelona. The Ferrocarriles de la Generalitat Valenciana offers a narrow train service with a 'little train'. This runs along the coastal routes and is an extremely scenic journey. There is boat services link towns along the Costa Blanca with Ibiza, Palma del Mallorca and Oran in Algeria. It is recommended to book ferries early to avoid disappointment, especially during the summer months.
