Euros €. Larger shops and hotels in Crete will take cards but in most small village shops and hotels cash is the only way to pay. ATMs are a great place to get cash, as the rates are generally good, although card charges can build up. Post offices and banks are the best place to exchange money. Most places to eat or visit are reasonably cheap so your cash will go quite far, especially compared with a big city break.

Language:

The official language is Greek but Cretans speak a variety of dialects and often prefer to use English. You will find that the standard of English is excellent in tourist area and attractions and is often good in smaller villages too. Crete even has special English-speaking police, although crime is low.

Entry:

UK citizens only need their valid passport for stays up to three months.
