From the party animal paradise of Ayia Napa, after which you’ll need another week off work to catch up on all your sleep, to the beautiful clear water beaches of Paphos, you’ll never be short of things to do during your Cyprus holiday. Take a hike up the Troodos Mountains (the best time is said to be spring when the pretty almond blossoms are in bloom) or visit the last remaining partitioned city in the world of Lefkosia (aka, Nicosia). Where will you visit first on your holiday in Cyprus?
Direct flights to Cyprus are slightly more expensive than other European destinations but that’s not to say you can’t get a bargain – just make sure you book well in advance. Flythomascook, Thomson Flights and Ryanair all offer reasonably priced flights to Cyprus and you have the choice of flying into one of two airports on the island. The main international airport in Larnaca is located four kilometres southwest of the city. It usually takes taxis around 15 minutes to get to the city centre – be aware there may be surcharges in the evenings. Paphos International Airport, meanwhile, is located just over six kilometres southeast of Paphos.
With no railway service in Cyprus the best way to get around is to use the local buses as they’re fairly cheap and efficient. Car hire can be expensive so it’s not a great way to see the island if you have to stick to a strict budget.
If you’re looking for a cheap hotel in Cyprus it's best to make sure you book well in advance. There are some great bargains to be had if you shop around! Hotels in Cyprus tend to be more expensive during the school holidays so try and book outside these peak times if you can.
One of the best things about Cyprus is the beautiful scenic views. Take part in one of the many nature trails around the island to see nature at its finest – the Troodos Mountains are said to be a favourite. Why not take a picnic along too and make a whole day out of it? It's cheap and a fantastic way to really make the most of your Cyprus holiday.
If you fancy tasting authentic Cypriot food without a hefty price tag stay away from the typically touristy restaurants and instead seek out a small traditional eatery. Make sure you try taramosalata, a dish traditionally made out of the slated roe of cod or carp mixed with mashed potato or bread crumbs. Perfect to dip bread into!
