Over are the days of Turkish hyperinflation, and with the lira largely stable again, Turkey it is much costlier than rest of the middle east. It remains, however, much cheaper than most of Europe and there are always bargains to be had on accommodation. ATMs are to be found in most large towns and accept all major cards. Dollars and Euros are fairly easy to change and are a much better option than travellers cheques which can be hard to change.

Turkey is by and large a safe country and violent crime and even petty theft are not common occurrences. It is worth being on your guard and wary of pickpockets.

Entry:

Visas are required for all UK citizens entering Turkey. However, these are available on arrival in the country at a cost of £10, payable in Sterling.
