Travel to Edinburgh

Edinburgh can easily be reached by train from towns and cities across Scotland and north England by rail. Trains run from London if you're travelling from the south, though it may be quicker to fly, especially as many companies offer cheap flights into Edinburgh from across the UK. Edinburgh is situated close to excellent motorways so coach travel and driving are other options.

On arrival in Edinburgh

Edinburgh Airport has excellent links to the city with trains to both Waverley and Haymarket, the two main stations in Edinburgh. Plus there are several buses serving the city and surrounding areas, as well as taxis and car hire firms. If you're staying in the historic centre, it's best to head to Waverly Train Station, as it's within walking distance of most hotels. However both stations have good connections with local buses and there are usually taxis waiting to help you complete your journey

Getting around Edinburgh

Buses are the principal method of public transport around Edinburgh and offer an extensive and efficient service. Whilst buses are generally frequent and reasonably priced, watch out for traffic jams, in which case it may be faster to walk! Taxis are easy to come by although quite expensive, especially during festivals and late at night.
