Egyptian pounds. The exchange rate is approximately E£10 to £1. In city locations you can easily exchange money at banks or withdraw cash from ATMs for a small fee but if you're travelling further afield it's best to ensure you have cash.

Standard Arabic is spoken across Egypt, with Egyptian Arabic spoken in Cairo. English, French and German are widely spoken.

Entry:

Valid UK Passport, and for all destinations apart from the Sinai Peninsula (Sharm El Sheikh) a 30-day tourist visa costing US$15 is also required. This can be purchased in sterling or US dollars on arrival.
