Egypt Weather
The majority of Egypt is situated within the Sahara desert and as such enjoys a warm sunny climate little to no rain year-round. The summer days are hot, and temperatures can reach above 40°C, although this is bearable as the humidity is very low. The night can be quite cold, particularly in the desert, with temperatures as low as 7°C possible, so bear that in mind if you're visiting attractions at sunset. The winter is very pleasant with daytime highs of about 25°C and cool night time lows that can drop just below freezing in more exposed parts. The beautiful desert oases enjoy near-perfect weather all year round and are an excellent tonic to the desert heat.
Egypt's coastal areas tend to be a bit milder as they are cooled by the sea breezes, and the climate on the north coast of Egypt is closer to that of a Mediterranean country. With the majority of the rainfall there is still only a small chance of bad weather as the average yearly rainfall rarely exceeds 200mm. Cloudy weather is possible in winter but most of the time it is sunny and warm like the rest of the country, if a little cooler. The worst weather occurs between March and early June when there are frequent high winds from the south that bring heat and dust.
Egypt's Tourist Season
The main tourist season is from October to May, as most tourists avoid the heat and lack of shade in the desert. Many visitors try to avoid Ramadan as there are numerous disruptions to opening hours of attractions as well as public transport. A nice time to visit Egypt is spring, when the weather is pleasant and the main holiday resorts are generally quieter. The high winds in March and April are not very pleasant, but they normally only last a couple of days at a time and can be quite a tale to tell.
