Travel to Exeter

Located in Devon, the cathedral city of Exeter is steeped in history offering plenty to see and do. Must-sees during a holiday in Exeter include the Gothic Exeter Cathedral, the historic quayside, home to the 17th Century Custom House, and the Norman Rougemont Castle. A tour around the city's medieval underground passages makes for an interesting afternoon while Crealy Great Adventure Park located on the outskirts of the city is a fun day out for all the family. See some of the city by water by taking a cruise down the River Exe.

Flybe offers plenty of flights to Exeter from a good variety of airports in the UK including Belfast City, Manchester, Leeds Bradford and Edinburgh. Flights land at Exeter International Airport which is located around eight kilometres from the city centre. The cheapest way to reach the city from the airport is by bus, and Stagecoach operate an hourly service from Monday to Saturday which takes around 25 minutes to get to the centre. Buses do run on Sundays, but not as frequently. Taxis are readily available at the airport and a trip to the city will cost around £20.

Those wishing to travel to Exeter via train should alight at Exeter St David's Station, which is a 15 minute walk from the centre, or at Central Station, which is just five minutes away on foot. There are regular trains from London and Salisbury and the station is also connected to cities in the north of England and Scotland. National Express also offer services to the city from various locations across the UK.

There are plenty of accommodation options located throughout the city. If you are on a budget and looking for cheap hotels in Exeter it's a good idea to shop around online and compare prices. If you have a car, staying on the outskirts will prove much more affordable, but for those without transport staying in the city centre is the most convenient option. Look out for B&Bs and guesthouses which tend to be cheaper than hotels.

You don't have to spend a fortune getting around during an Exeter holiday as the city centre can be explored on foot or by hiring inexpensive bicycles. Alternatively, car hire in Exeter can be a convenient option if you plan to travel to the surrounding areas during your trip.
