Faro
Travel to Faro
There are plenty of flights to Faro, with over 20 airports offering them across the UK. Many of these are operated by budget airlines so it's easy to get a cheap flight if you're prepared to be flexible on dates and flight times.
On arrival in Faro
Faro Airport lies just to the west of the town and there are two bus routes from the centre that include the airport, as well as a dedicated shuttle bus. Taxis are available but if there's a group of you then booking a private shuttle may prove cheaper. Car hire is also popular but can easily sell out during the busy summer months so booking ahead is important, and this will also get you the best rates.

Getting around Faro
Car hire is vital if you've hired a villa in the Algarve, or if you're planning on exploring the region. There are buses, even to some of the most remote villages, but as there may only be one or two per day they don't compare to the convenience of having your own wheels. However if you're planning on just staying in Faro itself then you'll easily get by on foot, by bus or by taxi.
Travelling further afield
Portugal has a good public transport network comprising trains both regular and high-speed for longer journeys, and intercity coaches. It's easy to get to Lagos, Lisbon and Porto as well as into Spain to Madrid and Seville. Driving in the Algarve is also easy, there are plenty of signs and fewer toll roads than further north.
