Money:

The Gambian currency is the Dalasi. You can change dollars, Euros and pounds at banks and exchange bureaus which have comparable tariffs. It is not worth using the black market to change money. ATMs are to be found in Banjul and in the Atlantic resort towns and there are very few further inland.

Language:

The official language in the Gambia is English and is the language of education. Most Gambians will speak Gambian as well as a local or tribal language. The two main tribal languages are Mandika and Wolof.

Dangers and Annoyances

There is little violent crime in The Gambia and the most common nuisance is in the form of 'Bumsters' youths - often unemployed - who follow tourists with sob stories or offers of guidance expecting payment.

Malaria is present throughout The Gambia, be sure to take medication with you and wear insect repellent.

Visas are not required by citizens of the UK staying in The Gambia for fewer than 90 days.
