Travel to Gran Canaria

Gran Canaria needs no introduction and it's no wonder so many Brits choose to spend their summer break on the island. The capital of Las Palmas is home to a number of museums and the wonderful Casa de Colon in particular is a must see. The geometrical paintings in La Cueva Pintada are a sight to behold for history lovers while hikers will be in paradise as they tackle the rugged mountains. One of the most popular resorts Playa Del Ingles boosts a beautiful family-friendly beach and lively nightlife - what more do you want from a holiday in Gran Canaria?

Ryanair, Thomson Flights, Flythomascook and Monarch are just a few of the airlines offering direct flights to Gran Canaria from the UK. Indirect flights from a wider range of UK airports are also on offer but these can work out nearly double the price. Gran Canaria Airport is situated around 19 kilometres south of Las Palmas and has connections with most major UK airports- making it the perfect destination for a summer holiday.

Gran Canaria offers a well organised and cheap bus service around the island, just look out for buses run by Global. Payment is required upon boarding and you'll need to use the exact change. The number 60 runs from the airport into the capital of Las Palmas.

Taking advantage of car rental in Gran Canaria means that you have the freedom to do as you like during your holiday. Just make sure you book well in advance to secure the cheapest deal.

There are plenty of hotels in Gran Canaria from basic B&Bs to five star luxury resorts so there's accommodation to suit every budget. If your funds are low make sure you book well in advance to secure a cheap hotel in Gran Canaria. Prices rise during the school holidays so it best to avoid July and August if you're looking to find a bargain. The fact that it's situated just 100 kilometres from Africa means that the island is blessed with warm weather all year round and it doesn't really matter what time of year you visit as it will always be pleasant!

Gran Canaria is a great place for road cycling so take a trip to your nearest bike hire agency if you're after a cheap way to explore island. You can spend hours discovering local quaint villages and the beautiful scenery - just don't forget to pack a map to make sure you don't get lost!

    What a fantastic place! I'm quite taken with saltpans and things like that and I adored this museum! So informative and I think the saltpans themselves are just stunning.

    My mates and I are always on the look out for rad new climbing places and Gran Canaria is high up there on our list now. Cheap prices, great weather and some amazing climbing to be done. Just make sure you get your license!!!
