Greece
Travel to Greece
Greece has two international airports on the mainland and three others that give easy access to the islands. Flights to Greece depart from plenty of UK destinations making it pretty easy to get to the region that you're after. To get the best prices try to be as flexible as possible on dates and look out for combinations of hotels, flights and transfers. Flight times are around four hours so you can spend more of your holidays relaxing instead of travelling.
On arrival in Greece
Transport options from Greek airports vary, although most will have shuttle buses run between the airports and the nearest holiday destinations. It's good to check with your hotel whether they offer a free shuttle bus before you make alternative arrangements. Car hire is a popular option in Greece as it gives you lots of freedom to decide your own agenda and travel times, or taxis will get you to your accommodation quickly.
Getting around Greece
Greece has a great intercity bus network that serves towns, cities and major islands too with a regular and inexpensive service. Train travel is gaining in popularity here too, and although the service is limited the tickets are cheap so check to see if it'll work for you. Hiring a car in Greece is very useful if you want to explore the more remote areas, although is often superfluous in urban settings. If you want to visit some of the islands make sure you check a timetable, ferries are plentiful in the summer but few and far between come wintertime.
