Hot SpotsHong Kong Island
Housing over a million people in a dense urban area, Hong Kong Island is the political, cultural and economic centre of Hong Kong. It is also the biggest draw for those on holiday in Hong Kong. It boasts an iconic skyline looking over the bustling harbour area. 'Central', the aptly named heart of Hong Kong Island showcases some fine colonial Victorian architecture whilst neighbouring Soho is an entertainment hub, packed with bars, restaurants and nightclubs. A must visit in Hong Kong is 'The Peak'. Accessible by tram, The Peak is the highest point in the city, commanding stunning views and boasting the most expensive real estate around. Most tourists will stick to the north side of the island but the south has some amazing beaches such as Repulse Bay.
Kowloon
Kowloon is the most densely populated part of Hong Kong. Though generally less touristy than Hong Kong Island, Tsim Sha Tsui has an excellent range of hotels and restaurants catering to both high end travellers and backpackers. There are excellent shopping opportunities around Kowloon, Mongkok is the main shopping district and features a diverse array of markets, stores and boutiques.
Outlying Islands
The Outlying Islands are a series of islands of varying sizes in the South of Hong Kong. Make sure you visit at least one to see the alternate side of life in Hong Kong. The biggest of the Outlying Islands is Lantau, known for its incredible beaches as well as several of Hong Kong's best-loved tourist attractions: Disneyland, the Giant Buddha statue and the Ngong Ping cable car. Flat Peng Chau island is popular with city dwellers looking to experience rural living among the island's small fishing community, whilst Lamma Island offers scenic hiking trails and fresh seafood.
New Territories
Though not a top tourist destination, Hong Kong's New Territories are comprised of some stunning scenery, with lush forests and national parks. They're well worth a visit if you have the time and the desire for exploration off the beaten track.
