Travel to Hurghada

Hurghada becoming ever more popular and that means prices are coming down and it's getting easier to get there. Flights to Hurghada are available across the UK and from Ireland too. With a flying time of just over four hours your holiday in paradise needn't be as far away as the Caribbean!

On arrival in Hurghada

Most of the hotels in Hurghada offer transfers from the airport, either as part of a package or an added extra so it's very easy to get to your accommodation. Taxis are very attentive too so if you've not got a way of getting from the airport, look lost for a couple of seconds and you'll be sure to have a taxi arrive, although it's best to arrange a price before starting your journey. Car hire is also available if you fancy having a bit of extra freedom.

Getting around Hurghada

There is very little public transport in Hurghada, but being a pretty small place it's not too difficult to walk to most places. Again taxis can appear at the drop of a hat so don't panic if you need to get somewhere. Locals favour the only public transport option, vans called jalla jallas which have no fixed route but hurtle around dropping people off for very reasonable rates, so if you're feeling intrepid this could be a great way to explore. Only a few roads have names so a map is a good idea if you're heading out!

Travelling further afield

You can swap diving for culture by taking a coach trip to Cairo, although on a short holiday an organised tour or taking a flight might be a better way than the public coach. The resort of Sharm El Sheikh is only a short boat ride away if you're looking for new spots to dive. Hiring a car or joining a tour are the only way to explore the coastline around the resort, but you can take a variety of desert excursions if you want to see life inland with the Bedouins.
