When to go to

Italy

Italian weather

The Italian climate can be generally described as temperate, though there is some variety according to which region you visit. During the summer the north is warm with occasional rain; the central area is humid; and the south is dry and hot. The northern cities of Milan, Turin and Venice can experience damp, foggy weather in the winter; in Tuscany it can actually reach freezing temperatures! Winter weather in the south of Italy is more pleasant. Holidays in Italy during the spring months of April and May or the autumn months of September and October are always a safe bet; the weather is at its most pleasant and tourist sites are less bustling!

When to visit

To get the cheapest prices on Italy flights it is advisable to be flexible with your travel dates. It is obvious that if you want to visit Rome in the peak season sunshine you're probably going to be paying a lot more. Why not consider a different airport and then use the pleasant Italian train system to get to where you want to go - or alternatively travel pre season when the weather is cooler (and in fact more pleasant for sightseeing!) You'll also beat all those horrible crowds around the Trevi Fountain by doing this!
