Currency in Kuala Lumpur is the Malaysian Ringitt (RM). Banks and specialist money exchange bureaux tend to offer the best rates. Most large shops will accept cards and there are plenty of ATMs around. You'll need to carry cash though if you head to the markets, into the suburbs or outside the city.

Bahasa Malaysian is the predominant language in Kuala Lumpur, with Cantonese, Mandarin and Tamil also popular. English is fairly widely known as it's compulsory is school and is the language of business in Kuala Lumpur.

Dangers:

Whilst Kuala Lumpur is generally safe, there are plenty of pickpockets and handbag snatchers about so it's best to be aware, avoid carrying valuables and watch out for anyone bumping into you. A dummy purse with small amounts of money in is ideal for visiting markets.

Entry:

UK nationals only need a passport that is valid for a minimum of six months to enter Kuala Lumpur, and can stay up to three months without applying for a visa.
