Euros €. Some hotels in Lagos offer exchange services although the rates are usually not very impressive. Banks offer better rates and ATMs offer convenience, although can run low at weekends. Check your card charges to see which works best for you.

Language:

Portuguese, although English is very widely spoken and if you're heading out to bars and clubs it's likely you'll find plenty of native English speakers behind the bars. German is also fairly widely spoken.

+351 for Portugal followed by 282 for the Portimão region, which contains Lagos as well as other holiday destinations such as Sagres and Luz.

Annoyances:

Watch out for where you can park your car, the round 'P' sign means Prohibido, no parking!

Entry:

A valid UK passport is all that is required for a tourist stay of up to three months. You can extend this by applying at the local town hall.
