Travel to Luxembourg

Despite its small size, Luxembourg is a country full of many treasures just waiting to be discovered. Take a trip to Diekirch, home to a museum commemorating the Battle of the Bulge during the Second World War, pay a visit to the beautiful Beaufort Castle in the medieval town of Vianden or try your hand at wine-making in the vineyards of the Moselle region. Of course don't forget the picturesque city of Luxembourg perched high on top of a cliff with stunning views. Just make sure you book a cheap hotel in Luxembourg so you can afford all that sightseeing!

Direct flights to Luxembourg are only available from London Heathrow airport and London City airport but that's not to say that it's not accessible from other parts of the UK - you'll just have to purchase indirect flights. You'll never be short of airlines to book with as British Airways, Luxair, Air France and KLM all have flights into the country - make sure you check out all of them to ensure you get a cheap deal. Alternatively check out budget airline Ryanair who fly into Frankfurt-Hahn Airport, it's located about a two hour drive from Luxembourg. With just over an hour flight time it's the perfect place to book a last minute break.

Be sure to look out for the number 16 bus when you arrive at the airport for a cheap way into the city. It runs at intervals of 15-20 minutes throughout the day and costs around €1.50 and your ticket is valid for two hours of unlimited transfers on all public transport, making it ideal if you're sticking to a budget during your holiday in Luxembourg. Taxis are available too from the airport but these can cost up to €25.

If you need to stick to a strict budget it's worth booking in advance to ensure that you get a cheap hotel in Luxembourg. Peak season is between May and October so Luxembourg hotels may be expensive during these months. Why not book during the spring time to keep down costs?

If you're planning on sightseeing it's best to purchase an all day ticket valid on both the buses and trains for only €4 as buses are the easiest way to explore during your holiday in Luxembourg. Just be aware that town buses have reduced routes on a Saturday and hardly any on a Sunday so try to plan your activities during the week.

Attractions can be expensive to visit especially if there's so many to fit in! So instead just spend the day wandering around the city with a picnic and admire the history from afar.
