George

I work on dealchecker's deal hunting team as well as managing the advertising sales side of DMC. When I'm not signing off multi-million pound ad deals I help the editorial team source mouth watering travel imagery for the real deals!

Expertise

SHORT BREAKS

Making the most of long weekends is my little speciality. In 3 days I will typically fit in 1 session water skiing, 1 very poor round of golf on a windy course, 1 hugely competitive game of tennis, 2 long walks along the beach and at least 3 visits to country pubs I can't pronounce to drink beer (that I equally can't pronounce).

UK BREAKS

I've always had a love for local breaks by the sea and this passion has only grown since my 2 kids came along. I live in Winchester and the amount of places you can reach within 4-5hrs drive is just great. Yorkshire Dales, south Devon and the west coast of Wales to name a few. They all have something in common - great scenery, great people and totally unpredictable weather!

COTTAGE HOLIDAYS

I have visited so many new, old, ugly, pretty, small and large cottages in my time. I quickly concluded that you shouldn't focus too much on how the cottage looks as much as where it's situated. As long as you have half decent company and you can walk to a beach, pub and shops you are onto a winning break (though central heating does also help!)

GOLF

I use to play a great deal of this beautiful game, getting down to a respectable 6 handicap. Now that I don't have so much time over the weekends I make a point of seeking out courses when I'm on holiday. My golf is by no means what it used to be so finding a course with a decent view is a must.

TRAVEL TIP - "Always try and get out whatever the weather."

Holiday quiz

LAST HOLIDAY

Salcombe in south-west Devon. Love the south-west coast, I have fond memories of sitting down in front of a log fire after a long walk in driving coastal rain, body boarding on Bantham Beach, sinking a cold beer in the Thurlestone Village Inn after burning my forearms and neck after a round of windy golf on the coast, drinking funny name ales in local undiscovered pubs, burying my son up to his neck in sand and skimming stones whilst watching the sun set over Burgh Island.

BEST HOLIDAY

Paris. My honeymoon at Christmas. At night walking along the Champs-Elysées surrounded by nothing but white Christmas Lights. During the day walking from museum to site (surviving on nothing but coffee, beer, cheap cigarettes and Croque Monsieur's).

DREAM HOLIDAY

Twin holiday in tourism BC.

TRAVEL NIGHTMARE

Food poisoning in Tunisia ruined 4 out of a 7 day holiday with my wife Emma - nice. Couldn't drink water for 2 days... still water's boring anyhow.

TRAVEL COMPANIONS

Me and my wife used to do a lot of short breaks - I now have a family so find myself escaping on cheeky golf holidays with my best friend Doug. Occasionally I also have taking the whole family away - until they are a bit older we will always opt for local breaks.

SUNLOUNGER OR ALWAYS ON THE GO?

On the go.

WHAT'S A GREAT DEAL FOR YOU?

Something that offers real value even over the school holidays. Finding a place that seems like it's in the middle of nowhere but is within easy reach of everything you need.

WHERE IN THE WORLD IS THE BEST FOOD?

There is good food everywhere - it's the situation you eat it in... after a long walk everything tastes good. Especially when overlooking a beach.
