It's all very well trekking around the world with your smelly washing but sometimes you just need to be treated like a princess. Sunshine and a cocktail please! The Dominican Republic is great for this; August in particular offers some spontaneous and torrential downpours to make for a good giggle and then beautiful, cool, sunshine ten minutes later.

I once spent 32 hours sitting on the floor of a bus travelling between Laos and Vietnam. We were trodden on, spat on, and more which I'd rather not mention - a character building moment to say the least but one of the funniest memories by far.

Both! This is why Eastern Europe is so great - you can stroll around, lap up the street food and beautiful architecture AND get a great tan at the same time.
