Travel to Miami Beach

With over 10 miles of beach, a holiday in Miami Beach is a sun-worshippers paradise. But that's not all that's on offer in this magical city. Make sure you visit Little Havana during your trip – the sounds and smells mean it's almost like being in Cuba! Wildlife enthusiasts shouldn't miss out on exploring the Everglades in an airboat – try to spot the alligators, racoons and Florida panthers. Finally party animals will be in their element as the South Beach clubs are said to be among the best in the world – don't forget to pack your dancing shoes!

Various airlines such as Delta, British Airways, Virgin Atlantic and American Airlines offer direct flights to Miami Beach flying out from London Heathrow. It's possible to buy indirect flights to the city and they can work out slightly cheaper – therefore they're a great option if you're sticking to a tight budget. However, you'll have to be prepared to stop over for a few hours. You'll fly into Miami International Airport which is located around 13 kilometres northwest of the city.

Once you arrive for your holiday you'll have to figure out how to travel to your final destination. Luckily there are plenty of options to choose from. There's a mass transit fixed-rail system that travels into all the areas throughout the Miami-Dade County for a reasonable price. Alternatively you can pick up taxis, they're available at the arrival area level of the airport. Finally there's a Metrobus service that stops off at all areas in the city – transfer between the buses is free.

One of the easiest way to travel around during your holiday in Miami Beach is by renting your own set of wheels. It couldn't be easier to hire a car in Miami Beach as there's plenty of car rental companies at the airport. However if you want to secure a cheap deal make sure you shop around at home online beforehand and always book as far in advance as possible.

There's no shortage of accommodation which is exactly what you'd expect from such a popular holiday destination. Fortunately there's an abundance of cheap hotels in Miami Beach too – you just have to make sure you book well in advance. Miami Beach is extremely popular with American college students during Spring Break and prices rocket with hotel rooms filling up quickly. If you're on a budget it's best to avoid this peak period and instead travel to the city during the summer months. Just keep in mind that the weather can be fairly humid and the city's prone to experiencing short bursts of rain. But don't let this put you off!

Miami is home to some fascinating neighbourhoods that are just begging to be explored. Luckily this doesn't have to cost a penny as there are numerous self-guided tours on offer for free. Miami is home to an abundance of stunning Art Deco buildings – you'll be able to print of the map online. Alternatively take a stroll along the downtown Waterfront starting at Bayfront Park.
