Income insurance - do you need it?
How long would you be able to survive financially if you lost your job? It's not something that most of us like to think about but in the current economic climate it's increasingly important. Whether you are unable to work because of redundancy or illness it's good to know that you have the funds to support yourself and your family until you return to work.
A study by the insurance company LV has shown that 26 per cent of adults in the UK do not have enough savings to live comfortably if they were unable to work. Another 30 per cent would only be able to survive for two months. The study also found that 34 per cent of adults in employment are not interested in taking out insurance to safeguard their income in event of illness or accident.
Naturally insurance companies will be encouraging workers to take up this insurance, but in the current economic climate it is worth thinking about how long you would be able to survive if you were unemployed; particularly if you have mortgage repayments and a family to support.
