Hot Spots

Central Perth

The Central Business District (CBD) is the commercial heart of Perth so you will find plenty of entertainment here as well as numerous places to eat and drink. Expect hotels to be at the pricier end of the scale though! On your travels look for London Court, a small street with all the trappings of central London complete with St. George battling a dragon. If the hustle and bustle of the city threatens to overwhelm you then King's Park is the perfect tonic with plenty of shaded walkways and great picnic spots. Head to Barrack's Arch to see where the guards who came over with the convicts from the UK used to live or expand your mind at the Scitech Discovery Centre, complete with Australia's largest planetarium.

North Perth

Across the river from the airport and near to the CBD, north Perth offers the best of both worlds when it comes to hotel accommodation. You can survey the area nicely from the top of the glass and copper Swann Bell Tower, which overlooks the city as well as the Swann River Basin, and the nearby Stirling Gardens are perfect for a shady stroll. Perth Mint will get you up-close and personal to more gold than you'll ever have a chance to see again whilst Perth Cultural Centre bursts with the wealth of its attractions. See art old and new at the Art Gallery of Western Australia or the Perth Institute of Contemporary Art, or learn about the area's past at the Western Australia Museum and State Library. You can even head to the theatre at the Blue Room, all in one place.

South Perth

South Perth is great for its easy access to the airport, so this is the place for you if you know your holiday in Perth will start with wanting to climb into bed after the long flight! You'll find it a little harder to get to the CBD area but public transport is pretty good. Here you will find the Old Mill, one of the oldest buildings in the city, and visiting is like taking a step back in time. For something a little more modern, Perth Zoo ticks all the boxes, with its eco-friendly outlook and great exhibits. You can also head to Burswood Park and take advantage of the free BBQ areas overlooking the Swann River, or follow the heritage trail sculpture route.

Further Afield

There's plenty to do further afield, so think about taking advantage of car hire in Perth if you want to be able to see some more of this huge country. Fremantle is a small port town nearby with plenty to keep you occupied, including the Western Australia Maritime Museum, or you can take the ferry to the beautiful island of Rottnest to spend time on the pristine beaches. For more natural attractions head to Lake Monger or the Araluen Botanical Gardens in the Darling Ranges. Swann Valley is known for its vineyards so you could head off on a wine tour, and stop off at Caversham Wildlife Park to meet some of the native animals close up. Thrill seekers won't want to miss out on Adventure World, the only theme park in the state, or make your own adventures by travelling to the Spanish inspired town of New Norcia.
