Travel to Thailand

A must during any Thailand holiday is a trip to the bustling capital Bangkok. With its many restaurants, bars, malls and museums, you'll never be bored of something to do. Other must see city destinations include Chang Mai, Ayutthaya and Pattaya. Sample some amazing seafood on the beaches of lively Phuket or visit the idyllic islands of Ko Samui or Ko Phi Phi, made famous by the film The Beach. Party animals should plan a trip to the full moon party on Koh Phangan - the free party on the beach is the perfect way to meet other travellers.

Prices for flights to Thailand can vary greatly depending on your choice of airline. With British Airways, Thai Air, Qantas and EVA Air all flying into the country it's worth shopping around. Indirect flights can be slightly cheaper - you'll just have to decide whether or not you're prepared to have stopovers.

One of the cheapest way to travel around during your holiday in Thailand is to take advantage of the bus network. Local buses will be the cheapest but they can get extremely cramped - not the best for long distances! An express bus might be a better option, they're identified by the colour orange.

For a uniquely Thai experience look out for a traditional long-tail boats to ferry you from island to island. These long thin wooden boats usually act as taxis but prices can vary depending on your journey time. Just be aware of choppy waters as you can get very wet! Modern air-conditioned ferries are available too if you fancy staying dry.

Thailand may evoke images of luxury but it's not hard to find a cheap hotel in Thailand as long as you book well in advance. The peak season in Bangkok is between November and March with prices sometimes twice as much than in low season. Try to book outside these times if you're on a budget. Off peak includes the rainy season but although the weather can sometimes be humid and prone to outbursts of rain, it can still be a pleasant time to go.

Part of the fun during your holiday in Thailand is haggling - you'll get some great bargains if you put the effort in! The prices can vary depending on how much the seller determines you can afford to pay and how much you actually want it - so try not to appear too keen! If you're staying in Bangkok make sure you pay a visit to the amazing Chatuchak Weekend Market - home to more than a staggering 15,000 booths.
