Currency is $ US Dollars. The best exchange rates are generally found in banks and ATMs, whereas airports, train stations and small independent exchange bureaus tend to have to worst rates.

Language:

Americans speak US English so there should be few language issues on the whole. Just remember that pants mean trousers, and a fanny pack is nothing ruder than a bum bag and you'll be fine. There are large immigrant populations in many of the cities and although it's likely you'll hear a whole gamut of languages from Spanish to Chinese to Arabic.

Dangers:

The US is actually a fairly safe place to travel despite violent crime and natural disasters filling the news. Keep your wits about you in crowds and add a dollop of scepticism and you should get on fine. Should a disaster strike there are great systems in place so just listen out. Outdoor adventurers can easily discuss any safety concerns with park rangers or at the information centres.

Entry:

The UK has an agreement with the US that entitles UK citizens to visit the USA for up to 90 days without a visa. But you have to fill out an ESTA (Electronic Travel System Authorisation) 72 hours before travel. You can find this at the link below or a travel agent can apply on your behalf.
