€ Euros. Exchange rates and commission in Venice are pretty high so it's best to have some Euros with you on arrival. ATMs generally offer the best deal and there are plenty throughout the city. Venice holidays can get expensive, with food and drink particularly dear. Look out for alimentari, which offer simple sandwiches, or get snacks from the Rialto Market to save some money. Don't forget to use the free water fountains for clean and free drinks!

Italian and Venetian. Many residents and employees in tourist hotspots speak English so it's perfectly possible to get around with only a couple of words in Italian to smooth the way.
