Canal Ring walk

posted by rwillcox on 21 March 2011 at 10:27

You can basically pick and of the canal rings to walk around, a more central one if you want a shorter walk and a further out one for a longer walk and see what you can see. My boyfriend and I walked several of the rings and just loved all the cool things you could come across and the lovely buildings everywhere

Roemer Visscherstraat

The section of houses from 20 to 30A is well worth making a detour to go past, as the houses are done in seven architectural styles like english cottage, french chateau and russian cathedral!

For about 8 euros you can get a whole day bus ticket allowing to explore the villages of Volendam, Marken and Edam which are located near to Amsterdam. They are really beautiful, traditional old Dutch villages and are relatively unspoilt.

Oude Kerk

posted by nstainforth on 8 November 2010 at 15:57

The oldest church in amsterdam, this church looks a bit crazy from the outside with little builidings seemingly trying to strangle it, but inside it comes into its own. The three organs are amazing in both number and design, and the ceiling and stained glass windows are exquisite. Definitely must-see.

where, when, how, web
Firmly in the middle of the red light district, off oudezijds voorburgwaal, quite near dam square
