Wow, this is one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world, and I totally loved it. So peaceful and charming, you could easily spend a nice lazy afternoon here with a lunch and a long stroll.

A beautiful calm oasis before you hit the red light district (or just after, depending on your direction i guess). These are amsterdam's oldest houses, with Het Houten huis the oldest from 1420!

Having been to amsterdam a few times we decided this time to see a little more of the country and so headed out to Volemdam for the day. It's only about 10 miles away so we hired bikes and cycled. Such a quaint old town, we actually saw one lady in traditional dress!!

Out to the north of amsterdam, you'll need to head out over the bridge just along from centraal, or i think you can get the bus from there too!
