Kessariani Monastery

Only a short trip outside Athens is this wonderful and famous monastery. It's a lovely peaceful spot in the mountains and there are some pretty artworks as well as some great architecture to see here.

I was lucky enough to be treated to a trip to the opera here when we were on holiday in Athens a couple of months back and it was a really memorable experience. The building itself is lovely and the acoustics are amazing, you could hear everything so perfectly.

Byzantine Museum

The building itself makes a great first impression, with neoclassical stylings offering a great canvas for the journey through the Byzantine age. The mosaics were a personal highlight, as well as the jewellery.

My boyfriend and I spent several lovely relaxing evenings walking around this area looking at the lovely ancient monumnets, mansions and churches, stopping off at tavernas on the way round to take advantage of the great Greek hospitality.

You can visit the impressiv estadiums where the 2004 games took place but don't forget to see the one where it all began! The site of the 1896 games - the original marble olympic stadium is a really wonderful sight and is on an extraordinary scale witha capacity of up to 60,000 people.
