I just thought this museum was wonderful. My husband had been before, before the renovations, and says it's so much better now. The collection, the displays, the facilities, all great. And the queues a lot smaller too than at some of the other big name places.

Only a short trip outside Athens is this wonderful and famous monastery. It's a lovely peaceful spot in the mountains and there are some pretty artworks as well as some great architecture to see here.

On my third trip to Athens, I wanted to do something a little different, which is why I went to the Goulandris Foundation Museum of Cycladic Art. This is the only museum in Athens that I have found that specializes in sculptures and figurine that predate the Hellenic cultures. It is really awe inspiring to see such skilled work that is that old.

When traveling to a city, one of my favorite past times is visiting their art museums, especially those that feature contemporary local art, as I feel it allows me to experience the vibe of the city. That is why in Greece I enjoyed the National Gallery of Art, where the vast majority of the collection is the work of 20th century Greek artists, in addition to a smattering of other European artists.
