I adore ports, and this one is so alive and bustling! And it's got so much history to it too. Not only are there plenty of ships coming and going and lots of people watching to do, but you can also browse the great fish markets nearby for something for dinner, as well as a strioll down the pier to see models of ancient boats.

Out to the south of Athens, it's easy to get there as tourists travel almost constantly into and out of the port

Just below the Acropolis is an amazing street market. The Monastiraki is an eclectic mix of kitsch, jewelry, local art, restaurants, and cafes. You can find almost anything. Though the jewelry is very reasonably priced, do not be afraid to haggle. It is usually crowded but, easily accessible and enjoyable.
