I couldn't wait to see this, I was so excited, and I have to say it lived up to my expectations. I can't believe it's so well preserved for something so old! What a fantastic holiday experience.

Those ancient greeks didn't so things by halves did they? You can just guess at the sheer size of the temple here which must have been amazing when it was new and there were 104 columns rather than the 15(!) that are there now, and it still looks imposing. Mind-blowing.

About an hour's drive from Athens you'll find a great place, the ruins of the Poseidon Temple in Sounion. We were up there for the sunset and it was stunning, you really feel history at times like that.

This exciting collection of ancient ruins has been partially restored to include a museum to visit, plus lots of history. A nice restaurant is the Vitro within a couple of blocks with extra touches like komboloi (a free favor) beads attached to your price slip and live music every night. The restaurant is delicatessen style with Greek choices.
