Experience a Laiki (weekly market) in Greece - it is such fun! We meandered around the stalls picking up the freshest fish, fruit and vegetables to create the most delicious picnic. If only we had the same standard of produce in the UK!

This is a really lovely, historical neighbourgood in Athens. Its a great spot to escape from the traffic and have a cool drink and a bite to eat. There's also some good shopping to be done here.

On Sunday mornings you will find a Flea Market that is huge and diverse. Avoid the tourist trap shops that are the same everywhere, but then you get to the really interesting finds - everything from antiques on down the line. This "market" goes on indefinitely it seems. It is a look into the greek culture and you will probably see some gypsies and other interesting people. It's a lively atmosphere. Prepare to spend the day & wear comfortable shoes!

On Sunday the Monastiraki Flea Market is more a flea market with people selling their stuff from their homes on blankets, but during the week it is an assortment of tourist shops, clothing stores, fur and jewerly stores dotted with some pretty interesting shops. You can get some good deals, but make sure you know what you are buying and always haggle over the price!

The Plaka is one of the neighborhoods adjacent to the Acropolis, and is the best place for shopping while in the city. The streets are so narrow that motor vehicles cannot pass, and in the many shops you can find expensive items such as authentic antiques and reproductions, and less expensive ones like post cards.
