Right by the Temple of Olympian Zeus stands Hadrian's Arch along Vassilissis Olgas and Amalias avenues. Once a city gate that connected Athens with the Roman quarters, the arch has inscriptions meant to be read by the passing people. One side reads "This is the city of Hadrian" and the other reads "This is Athens."

On Sunday the Monastiraki Flea Market is more a flea market with people selling their stuff from their homes on blankets, but during the week it is an assortment of tourist shops, clothing stores, fur and jewerly stores dotted with some pretty interesting shops. You can get some good deals, but make sure you know what you are buying and always haggle over the price!
