racing boats in the harbour.

posted by lcherry on 23 November 2010 at 11:02

In the downtown waterfront area, you can have a go on the racing boats that were constructed for the Americas cup in 2000. It costs about $150 and is certainly not a leisurely sightseeing cruise. Instead, you get to bomb around the harbour at extremely high speeds. The crew will encourage you to have a go at manning the boat. Whilst this isn't obligatory it's a great experience.

Viaduct basin and downtown waterfront

posted by dholts on 23 November 2010 at 10:59

The Viaduct basin and downtown waterfront is a popular area for entertainment in New Zealand as well as being the location of some of the poshest most modern houses in town. There are also some beautiful old harbour buildings which are particularly striking against the modern steel and glass architecture that was constructed for the 2000 Americas cup. A great place to wander round and get a coffee.

The Heritage Hotel

posted by dyoung on 19 November 2010 at 16:26

Although this hotel is just one of the heritage chain of hotels, it was a great choice for our few days in Auckland. The hotel is located just 8 mins from Queen Street and all that it offers and has its own swimming pool.
