At about an hour's drive north of Auckland it might not be for everyone but we were passing on our way to visit friends and loved it. Glass of Brick Bay wine in hand, we took the 2km tour of the trail which keeps surprising you with new works peeking from the lovely wooded trail. Really nice and realxing stop on a long drive!

My family and I love walking and we couldn't resist the pull of the awaroa seaside walk. going from shelly park up to naupata point there's plenty to see including maori sites and great rock formations. It's quite long so would say that you can just do a bit but look up which bit so you see some good things.

Devonport is just a short 20 minute hop from Auckland by ferry. It's a lovely quaint little port and you can do a nice walk to the 2 volcanoes which isn't too much of an exertion at all.
