This is a great escape from Bangkok. You can get the boat there down the Chao Phraya River. Its a little collection of islands, criss-crossed by canals, with an elevated walkway running around it. There are a number of little villages here which are fun to explore and a good place to buy local produce. There are also some stunning temples here which date from the Ayutthaya period.

You can get boat tours of the Chao Phraya, which is bangkok's main waterway. The price is only 10 baht which is really reasonable and you'll see a lot of the town including great views of the grand palace and Temple of Dawn. If you can get off at Thewes, I'd really recommend it as the flower markets there are really vibrant and quite gorgeous.
