A music festival to rival Glastonbury, end of July. I have been for the last two years and it was fantastic. I camped both times. With the heat forcing you out of your tent by 9am some may prefer one of the hotels but they're already booked out for this year's festival. Most popular bands playing this year are the Arctic Monkeys, Muse, The Hives, The Magic Numbers, The Human League ... and you're guaranteed the sunshine! Having said you're forced out of your tent by 9, a walk to the beach (30 mins) and a sleep in the shade sort you out, followed by a cold communal shower (for some companions one of the holiday's highlights!) then you're ready for the evening of live music, which starts about five and goes on through the night. There's a main stage a second stage and a dance tent, plus market stalls and some rest areas with screens to watch the stages from. Benicassim is a small town on the East coast of Spain and the beaches are beautiful, there are plenty of cafes, bars and restaurants along the beach front and it feels more like a proper holiday than any other festival I've been to. We booked a nice hotel in Valencia for the day after to explore the old town before the flight back - well advised as Valencia has a lot to offer, architecture (Calatrava's City of Arts & Science)gardens and the old town - actually a few days there would be well worth it. Do it!
